How Invisalign works

Each aligner is a clear plastic tray made for your teeth. You wear each set for one to two weeks, and every new set moves the teeth a little further along the plan. Small tooth-colored attachments on some teeth help the aligners hold and move them.
Your treatment starts with a digital scan of your teeth instead of a conventional impression. Your orthodontist plans each tooth movement in ClinCheck, Invisalign's planning software, and shows you the planned result before the aligners are made.
Is Invisalign right for you?
- You would like to straighten your teeth with clear aligners rather than brackets.
- You can wear the aligners for 20–22 hours a day and take them out only to eat, drink and clean your teeth.
- You can come back about every 6–8 weeks for a check and your next aligners.
Your orthodontist tells you whether aligners suit your bite after an examination and X-rays. For some bite problems, fixed braces may be recommended instead.

What happens, and how many visits

Consultation and records
Your orthodontist examines your teeth and bite and takes panoramic and cephalometric X-rays.
Digital scan and ClinCheck plan
Your teeth are scanned with an iTero intraoral scanner, and your orthodontist shows you the planned tooth movements and result in ClinCheck before you confirm.
Fitting your first aligners
When your aligners arrive from Invisalign, small attachments are bonded to some teeth and you are shown how to put the aligners in and take them out.
Check visits
About every 6–8 weeks, your orthodontist checks progress and gives you your next aligners. Digital monitoring is also available to track how your teeth are moving between visits. Small amounts of enamel may be polished between some teeth to make space, if your plan includes it.
Retainers
When you have finished your aligners, the attachments are removed, final X-rays are taken and retainers are made to keep the teeth in place, including clear Vivera retainers from the makers of Invisalign.
Treatment time depends on how far your teeth need to move. The ClinCheck plan shows the number of aligners, so your orthodontist can give you an estimate before you start.
Wearing your aligners
Wear your aligners for 20–22 hours a day and in the order given. Take them out to eat and drink, and brush your teeth before you put them back in. Rinse the aligners and brush them gently every day to keep them clean.
When you start a new set, it is normal to feel some pressure for the first few days. If an aligner cracks or does not fit, contact the clinic.
Cost of Invisalign
The fee depends on the Invisalign package your case needs. Price ranges for each package are on our prices page, and your orthodontist confirms the package and fee after the examination and scan.
Prices on our prices page are shown as ranges. Your final fee depends on what the examination finds, and may include additional items — such as a rubber dam or special materials — when your treatment needs them. Your dentist explains these before treatment.
Who treats you
Invisalign treatment is planned and monitored by our orthodontists, dentists with postgraduate training in orthodontics, and the clinic is Invisalign Certified.
Invisalign FAQs
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
It depends on how far your teeth need to move. Each set of aligners is worn for one to two weeks, and the ClinCheck plan shows how many sets you need, so your orthodontist can give you an estimate before you start.
How many hours a day do I need to wear the aligners?
20–22 hours a day. Take them out only to eat, drink and clean your teeth. Wearing them for fewer hours can slow treatment down.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Most people feel some pressure for the first few days of each new set of aligners, which then eases. Tell your orthodontist if an aligner rubs or feels uncomfortable for longer.
Which Invisalign package do I need?
It depends on how complex your case is and how many aligners it needs. Your orthodontist recommends a package after the examination and digital scan: Comprehensive for full treatment, Moderate, Lite or Express for less complex cases, Go for the front teeth and Teen for teenagers.
How much does Invisalign cost?
The fee depends on the Invisalign package your case needs. Price ranges for each package are on our prices page, and your orthodontist confirms the package and fee after the examination and scan.
How often do I need to come in?
With braces, about every 4–6 weeks for an adjustment; with Invisalign, about every 6–8 weeks for a check and your next aligners. If you live outside Chiang Mai, ask us before you start so the visits can be planned.
Who will treat me?
Invisalign treatment is planned and monitored by our orthodontists, dentists with postgraduate training in orthodontics, and the clinic is Invisalign Certified.
