All-on-4 or All-on-6: how many trips and how long in Chiang Mai

Content reviewed by Dr. Pawak Tungthangthum, DDS (Chiang Mai University), MSc in Esthetic Restorative and Implant Dentistry (International Program), Chulalongkorn University · Last reviewed

All-on-4 and All-on-6 replace all the teeth in one jaw with a fixed bridge held by four or six implants. The bridge stays in place and is removed only by your dentist for maintenance. At Kitcha Dental Clinic both are planned with a 3D CBCT scan and are usually completed in two trips to Chiang Mai.

All-on-4 or All-on-6: how the dentist decides

Both carry a full-arch bridge. All-on-4 uses four implants, angled to make use of the bone you already have, so it often needs less bone grafting than placing an implant for every tooth. All-on-6 adds two implants where more support is wanted. Which one suits you is decided from your CBCT scan and examination, not from the number alone, and the price is the same for both.

How many trips, and how long in Chiang Mai

  • Trip 1, usually about 1–2 weeks: examination, CBCT scan, treatment plan and written estimate, then implant surgery under local anesthesia.
  • Healing, usually 2–6 months: the bone grows onto the implants while you wear temporary teeth. Bone grafting can make this longer.
  • Trip 2, usually about 1–2 weeks: impressions or scans, a try-in, and the final full-arch bridge is fixed.

If radiation worries you: at our clinic, X-rays inside the mouth are digital, taken with phosphor plates and sensors that help lower the dose compared with film. Our Planmeca ProMax CBCT has an Ultra Low Dose mode, your dentist chooses the mode that suits each case, and X-rays are taken only when they are needed.

Most people can travel 2–3 days after implant surgery, and your dentist confirms this and your timeline after the CBCT scan. If you live abroad, contact us before you book flights so the visits can be planned around your travel dates.

Will I have teeth after the surgery?

Yes. Most patients have fixed temporary teeth fitted within a few days of surgery, while the implants integrate with the bone. Your dentist explains the plan for your temporary teeth before surgery.

What the price includes

All-on-4 and All-on-6 are one price per jaw, with a hybrid full-arch acrylic bridge. You can upgrade the final bridge to zirconia for an additional fee per jaw. CBCT, bone grafting and medicines are charged separately, only if you need them. A deposit is required before surgery, the surgical fee is paid in full on the day of surgery, and the bridge is paid on the day of the impression. 1-year warranty on the restoration, terms apply, used at our clinic in Chiang Mai.

Anesthesia and feeling anxious

Surgery is done under local anesthesia. If you feel anxious, nitrous oxide or an anti-anxiety tablet taken before treatment may be suitable, and your dentist decides after checking your health. If treatment under general anesthesia is needed, we refer you to a hospital and coordinate your care.

Caring for the bridge

Clean around the bridge every day and come for regular maintenance visits, when your dentist checks the implants and the bridge.
