Kitcha Dental Clinic Chiang Mai

Teeth whitening in Chiang Mai

Whitening lightens the color of your natural teeth. At Kitcha Dental Clinic you can choose in-office whitening with Philips Zoom, which takes about one and a half hours, or home whitening with trays made for your teeth. A dentist checks your teeth first.

  • Open every day, 09:00–20:00
  • Opposite Chiang Mai Gate
  • Coordinators in English and Thai

Is whitening right for you?

  • Your natural teeth have become yellow or darker over time.
  • You would like a lighter shade before a special event or before new crowns or veneers are made.
  • One tooth has turned dark after root canal treatment.

Whitening works on natural teeth only; it does not change the color of crowns, veneers or fillings. If your teeth are very sensitive or have decay or gum problems, your dentist treats these first or suggests another option.

Your options

  • In-office whitening (Philips Zoom or PolaWhite)

Done in one visit by the dentist, with the gums protected. A Philips Zoom session takes about one and a half hours.

  • Home whitening with custom trays

Clear trays made for your teeth and Opalescence whitening gel in the strength your dentist prescribes, used at home over 1–4 weeks.

  • Whitening a root-treated tooth

A single tooth that has darkened after root canal treatment can be whitened from the inside, usually over 1–3 visits.

Home whitening can also be used after in-office whitening to keep the result. Your dentist explains which option suits your teeth.

Would you like to know which whitening suits you?

Book a visit and your dentist checks your teeth and gums first, then explains the options and what result to expect.

In-office whitening, step by step

  1. Check and starting shade

Your dentist checks your teeth, gums and any sensitivity, cleans the teeth and records your starting shade.

  2. Protecting the gums

A cheek retractor, eye protection and a barrier over the gums keep the whitening gel on the teeth only.

  3. Whitening cycles

The gel is applied to the front of the teeth and activated with a whitening lamp in several cycles, while you are monitored throughout.

  4. Final shade and aftercare

The gel is removed, your new shade is recorded, and your dentist explains how to look after your teeth. Tell your dentist about any sensitivity; relief gel can be prescribed.

Home whitening

Your dentist takes an impression or scan of your teeth to make clear trays, which are usually ready a couple of hours later or the next day. You apply the gel in the trays at home for the time your dentist advises, over 1–4 weeks.

Store the gel in a cool place, ideally in the refrigerator, as instructed on the box.

After whitening

  • Sensitivity

Some people have sensitive teeth for a short time after whitening. Tell your dentist if this happens, especially if you already have sensitive teeth.

  • Food, drinks and smoking

Avoid coffee, tea, red wine and smoking for at least the first few hours, and limit them afterwards to keep the result longer.

  • Keeping the result

Brush and clean between your teeth as usual. Home whitening trays can be used for touch-ups when your dentist advises.

Cost of teeth whitening

Prices for Philips Zoom in-office whitening and home whitening with trays are listed on our prices page. Your dentist confirms the fee after checking your teeth.

Prices on our prices page are shown as ranges. Your final fee depends on what the examination finds, and may include additional items — such as a rubber dam or special materials — when your treatment needs them. Your dentist explains these before treatment.

Teeth whitening FAQs

How long does in-office whitening take?

A Philips Zoom session takes about one and a half hours in one visit, including the check, gum protection and whitening cycles.

How white will my teeth get?

It varies from person to person, depending on your natural tooth color and the cause of the staining. Your dentist records your shade before and after, and explains what result to expect at the check.

Does whitening make teeth sensitive?

Some people have sensitive teeth for a short time afterwards. If you already have sensitive teeth, tell your dentist before treatment; extra precautions can be taken, or home whitening may suit you better.

Will whitening change the color of my crowns or veneers?

No. Whitening works on natural teeth only. If you plan new crowns or veneers, whitening is usually done first so the new ones can be matched to your lighter shade.

In-office or home whitening: which should I choose?

In-office whitening is done in one visit by the dentist. Home whitening takes 1–4 weeks at your own pace and can be repeated for touch-ups. Some people use both. Your dentist explains which suits your teeth and your schedule.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

Prices for Philips Zoom in-office whitening and home whitening with trays are listed on our prices page. Your dentist confirms the fee after checking your teeth.
